Priya Misra obtained her BA with honours in International Studies and Russian at Vassar College (New York, USA) prior to coming to Oxford as an MPhil candidate in Russian and East European Studies. During her undergraduate career, Priya studied in Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Kazakhstan and ultimately moved to Georgia for two years after graduation to work with rural youth development. In Georgia, she lived in an Azerbaijani-minority village in Kvemo Kartli where she developed her research interests in identity formation and minority policies. Her graduate research will examine how the Georgian government's approach to minority education and language rights impact Azerbaijani residents. Through field work in Azerbaijani villages in the historic Borchali region of Kvemo Kartli, Priya strives to highlight personal narratives in order to better understand the implications of legislation on the ways in which Azerbaijanis make sense of their past, rights, and futures in Georgia
